Napakiak village is on an island between the Kuskokwim River and Johnson's Slough accessible by boat or plane. Located 10 miles southwest of Bethel with a population around 500, with most residents being Yup'ik. The town covers 5 square miles and is in the process of finding funding to relocating their public buildings away from the

river's shoreline where erosion has taken away about 700 feet of land in the last 10 years.
